Services

It is believed that parents and guardians can primarily contribute to the success of dynamic stimulation tests. There are some facts that you must know about the stimulation testing:

  • Stimulation testing basically measures the response of specific glands within the endocrine system to different types of hormones.
  • There are different types of stimulation testing that can be performed to help the doctor diagnose your child’s medical condition in a proper way.
  • Generally, stimulation testing takes several hours. Therefore, you should plan your child’s stimulation test-taking from anything around 1 to 3 hours.
  • You should follow the specific instructions given by your child’s doctor about eating and drinking before the test.
  • An intravenous (IV) line need to be placed in your child to start the testing.
  • Then after, blood samples are removed from the IV line at different times throughout the test.

What is Stimulation Testing?

Stimulation testing is performed to check or measure the way your child’s endocrine system responds to different types of hormones. Different types of stimulation tests can be performed to diagnose or rule out different medical conditions. Few of the stimulation tests that might be taken up includes:

  • Growth Hormone Stimulation test- it is performed to check or find out whether your child’s pituitary gland is producing enough growth hormone or not.
  • GnRHa (Leuprolide) Stimulation test- it is performed to identify or diagnose precocious i.e too early or delayed i.e. too late puberty in boys and girls.
  • Oral glucose tolerance test- it is performed to rule out conditions like diabetes and insulin resistance.
  • ACTH stimulation test- it is performed to find out whether your child’s adrenal glands are producing enough cortisol or not and to diagnose congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Role of parents during the test

The parent or guardian can help their child to stay calm and relaxed during the test. The best way you can make your child stay calm is by ensuring that you stay calm.

  • You can stay with your child throughout taking the test.
  • You can comfort your child by distracting their attention through involving them playing with stuff toys during the test.
