SUMMARY:What is health promotion?
DESCRIPTION:“When prevention works\, nothing happens.”  \nHealth promotion is focused on broad\, community-level interventions that help shape the environmental contexts in which people live\, learn\, love\, and work. Health promotion includes policy change\, advocacy\, adjusting built environments\, and coalition building. Much of the work of health promotion happens “behind the scenes” and involves collecting and analyzing data\, setting priorities for interventions\, assessing and evaluating the progress of programs and services\, meeting with key stakeholders and decision-makers\, advocating for policies or structural changes that will help improve the health of the population\, and implementing health-enhancing initiatives. \nSome of the specific health promotion work that Alice! does includes: conducting assessments of student health attitudes and behaviors; analyzing data to determine where our resources can best be utilized to prevent illness and improve student health and learning; meeting with groups of students and the faculty and staff that work with them to determine how to address the health issues most affecting their academic performance; and advocating for policy and programmatic changes that enhance the health of the campus environment.

DESCRIPTION:Opens in a new window appointments are strongly encouraged so that Medical Services staff may be sensitive to any time constraints. It is also helpful if you provide basic information about the reason for your intended visit (e.g.\, stomach pains\, headache\, travel assessment\, pregnancy screening\, prescription refill). We will work with you to arrange an appointment with your regular provider. \nEveryone is assigned a Medical Services provider or PCP. The assignment process is random and is done by computer. You can change your provider at any time. If you know your PCP\, or if you wish to change your provider\, please let the person scheduling your appointment know.

SUMMARY:How to Schedule an Appointment Online.
DESCRIPTION:All of our students have a designated health care provider\, also called a Primary Care Provider (PCP)\, who works within a team of nurses and support staff (practice group) and are here to help them. Open Communicator is the secure online portal for students to access Medical Services and are automatically eligible to access Open CommunicatorOpens in a new window after paying the Columbia Health Fee and activating their Columbia UNI. \nNote: Some students at affiliated institutions will have to be entered manually into the system before they are able to access Open Communicator. If you feel you are eligible\, but are having difficulty accessing the secure site\, please call Medical Services for assistance. \nWhen logged into Open Communicator\, students are able to schedule\, reschedule or cancel appointments\, complete a pre-visit questionnaire\, change their PCP\, print out immunization records\, send a secure message to a provider or nurse\, or request a prescription refill. New features are being added all the time\, and students are encouraged to become familiar with this site and to check back frequently.

SUMMARY:Emergency Anaesthetic Team
DESCRIPTION:At large events supported by the Event Medicine Company (EMC) a designated team of pre-hospital care practitioners is available to deliver advanced airway interventions up to and including pre-hospital emergency anaesthesia (PHEA\,) anywhere it may be required on site or in the immediate surrounding area. \nThe Emergency Anaesthetic Team consists of 2 clinical staff\, a doctor and a nurse\, paramedic or operating department practitioner\, all of whom are trained and experienced in the provision of PHEA. The team is available for deployment when requested by anEMC asset on scene or at the request of the local statutory ambulance service. \nAt Farnborough International Airshow the Emergency Anaesthetic Team members are integrated with the Casualty Clearing Team but can be utilised independently should the need arise.
