SUMMARY:What is health promotion?
DESCRIPTION:“When prevention works\, nothing happens.” \nHealth promotion is focused on broad\, community-level interventions that help shape the environmental contexts in which people live\, learn\, love\, and work. Health promotion includes policy change\, advocacy\, adjusting built environments\, and coalition building. Much of the work of health promotion happens “behind the scenes” and involves collecting and analyzing data\, setting priorities for interventions\, assessing and evaluating the progress of programs and services\, meeting with key stakeholders and decision-makers\, advocating for policies or structural changes that will help improve the health of the population\, and implementing health-enhancing initiatives. \nSome of the specific health promotion work that Alice! does includes: conducting assessments of student health attitudes and behaviors; analyzing data to determine where our resources can best be utilized to prevent illness and improve student health and learning; meeting with groups of students and the faculty and staff that work with them to determine how to address the health issues most affecting their academic performance; and advocating for policy and programmatic changes that enhance the health of the campus environment.

SUMMARY:What to expect at your office visit with the acupuncturist?
DESCRIPTION:Typically an acupuncturist will begin by taking a complete history by asking numerous questions about your primary complaint as well as more general health issues. An acupuncturist physical exam may resemble a more conventional exam\, including vital signs like weight\, temperature and blood pressure. \n It is also likely to include a more detailed examination and analysis of the pulse and tongue as well as abdominal palpation and facial diagnosis. \n When the acupuncturist has arrived a working diagnosis\, he or she will place you in a comfortable position to insert needles. you may be seated although it is more common to lie down. \nTen to 20 needles may be inserted although more or less is not uncommon. Once you are comfortable\, you will relax in the treatment room for 15 to 20 minutes checking on you periodically to ensure that you are still comfortable.

SUMMARY:How do I get a prescription refilled
DESCRIPTION:Getting a prescription refilled depends on whether you’ve already been seen here and the type of medication you need.\nIf you are a new patient\, first make an appointment with Medical Services for an evaluation. Returning patients can refill prescriptions by calling (212) 854-7426 or go online and send your health care provider a secured message with your request. \nSome prescriptions require visits with your Medical Services provider for renewal—make an appointment ahead of time to ensure you don’t run out of medications.
